Masquerade’s backstage environment should feel just as respectful and calm as the guest-facing spaces. These policies help ensure Staff communicate well, resolve disagreements gracefully, and maintain a stable, supportive atmosphere.
This page outlines expectations for how Staff behave in staff channels, how disagreements are handled, how inactivity is addressed, and what’s expected for promotions.
Staff spaces should feel professional, welcoming, and collaborative.
Be respectful, even when venting.
Staff are human. You’re allowed to be frustrated — just keep it respectful and avoid personal attacks or hostile language.
Assume good intent.
Most conflicts come from misunderstanding, not malice.
Don’t dogpile.
If a staff member is struggling or venting, don’t turn it into a debate or pile-on.
Keep disagreements private.
If a conversation becomes heated:
Move it to DMs
Or request Admin mediation
Staff channels are not for conflict theater.
Use @pings sparingly.
Ping roles only:
For legitimate issues
For safety concerns
When action is required
Never to call out or embarrass a staff member.
Confidentiality matters.
Anything in staff channels stays there.
No screenshots shared outside the team.
Conflict happens — what matters is how it’s handled.
Step 1: Slow down before responding.
Take a breath before replying. A calm tone solves 90% of conflicts.
Step 2: Address the issue privately.
A quick DM such as:
“Hey, I think we misunderstood each other — can we clarify?”
Prevents escalation.
Step 3: If it continues, escalate to Admin mediation.
Admins are neutral facilitators, not judges. Their role is to help both sides feel heard and settle on a path forward.
Step 4: No grudges.
Staff must be able to work together.
Once resolved, it’s over.
Staff don’t need to be online constantly — real life comes first — but communication keeps things smooth.
Short-Term Inactivity (few days)
No announcement needed.
Medium Inactivity (1–3 weeks)
Post a quick note in the staff channel so others know you’re unavailable.
Extended Inactivity (1+ month)
Admins may temporarily adjust your role or permissions until you return.
This is never punitive — just organizational.
Silent Disappearances
If a staff member goes silent without notice for a long period, they may be:
Checked in with
Temporarily removed
Or shifted to a lighter role
We protect staff from burnout, not punish them for being human.
Masquerade promotes based on:
Consistency — Calm, steady presence
Judgment — Good decisions, no power-tripping
Tone — Elegant, respectful, on-brand
Reliability — Showing up in meaningful ways
Professionalism — Treating members & staff well
Calm Under Pressure — Handling drama smoothly
Teamwork — Being someone others trust
What promotions are not based on:
Popularity
Message counts
Being loud
Being “always online”
Punishing a lot of members
Policing other staff
Masquerade promotes people who elevate the space, not dominate it.
Don’t be a dick.
Masquerade is elegant, not aggressive.
Staff should elevate the mood, never drag it down.
Treat members like guests, not problems.
Even when correcting behavior.
Treat staff like teammates, not rivals.
No competition, no ego wars.
Burnout prevention is real.
Take breaks. Step back when needed. Ask for help.
It’s better to pause than to push through resentment.
If something feels wrong, ask.
Whether it’s a moderation decision, staff conflict, or something sketchy from a member — never sit with uncertainty alone.
Professionalism here doesn’t mean being stiff or corporate — it means being:
Calm
Clear
Fair
Respectful
Mature
Consistent
Staff represent the server with every action.
If a staff member is consistently causing stress, drama, or tension in the team, Admins may step in privately to address it.
Internal Policies exist to protect you as much as the server.
Masquerade thrives when Staff feel supported, respected, and empowered — and when the team treats each other with the same elegance and care the server is built on.
You’re here because we trust your judgment.
These policies help you trust each other.
